“All of us at Warner Chappell are immensely proud that the David Bowie estate has chosen us to be the caretakers of one of the most groundbreaking, influential, and enduring catalogs in music history,” WCM Co-Chairman and CEO Guy Moot said in a press release. “These are not only extraordinary songs, but milestones that have changed the course of modern music forever.”
Bowie, born in London in 1947, was known for his ever-evolving musical and fashion stylings, as well as his ability to push the artistic boundaries of both. After a career spanning nearly six decades, the singer died Jan. 10, 2016, following an 18-month battle with liver cancer, at the age of 69.
The finances behind the catalog sale have not been released.
