One of the breakout stars from Netflix’s “Squid Game” has made the cover of Vogue.
Korean actress Hoyeon Jung, 27, was revealed as Vogue’s February cover star in the United States.
Jung, who portrayed Player 67 Kang Sae-byeok in the Netflix series, spoke with the fashion outlet about her rapid rise to international fame following the show’s premiere. In November, “Squid Game” became Netflix’s most-viewed show of all time, bringing in 1.65 billion hours of streaming in 28 days.
“My entire life changed in just one month,” Jung told Vogue, adding, “The feeling, there’s a limit to what words can express.”
The new attention and fame took its toll on Jung, who revealed she lost 8 pounds following the release, as she struggled to come to terms with her overnight success.

“I don’t know why, but I couldn’t eat,” Jung said. “I was so confused, and it was so chaotic. I didn’t believe it. I didn’t trust it.”
Prior to “Squid Game,” Jung was a model, having come in second place on “Korea’s Next Top Model” at the age of 19. While modeling, Jung shot campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Chanel, and walked the runway for 2016’s Fashion Week in Paris.
However, the actress has been able to gain a new perspective about her career as a whole and how its highs and lows can reflect how she perceives her life.
“Getting farther away from other people’s gaze let me find what I wanted again and gave me time to study it,” Jung said. “What’s important in life is not when your career is up, but when your career is down and how you spend that time. That’s something I learned.”
