But the Science Guy is adapting to reach a whole new generation of children on the Chinese video-sharing social networking service. His latest video is on the science of skin color, explaining how the distribution of ultraviolet light across the planet results in variations of skin tone.

“That’s it, everybody,” he says at the end. “That’s the reason we have different colored skin, but we’re all one species. But we’re not treating each other fairly. Not everybody is getting an even shake. So it’s time to change things. “
The 60-second video is Nye’s sixth post on his Tik Tok account, where he already has 3.2 million followers and 11.6 million likes since posting his first video on March 26. The topics have been relevant to ongoing news and issues, such as the coronavirus pandemic, but are presented with the classic sounds and effects of his previous work, including the “Consider the Following” segment started in his video programming.
