The Miami Marlins are making Major League Baseball history.
The baseball club on Friday announced they have hired Kim Ng to be the team’s new general manager, making Ng the first female and first Asian GM the league has ever had.

According to the Marlins, Ng is believed to be the first female general manager for a men’s team in a major professional sport in North America.

“I entered major league baseball as an intern and, after decades of determination, it is the honor of my career to lead the Miami Marlins as their next general manager,” Ng said in a statement. “We are building for the long term in South Florida, developing a forward-thinking, collaborative, creative baseball operation made up of incredibly talented and dedicated staff who have, over the last few years, laid a great foundation for success.”
Ng, 53, has a breadth of experience with more than 30 years of serving as a high-ranking executive in the league.
She most recently worked as the MLB’s senior vice president of baseball operations for nine years and was assistant general manager for the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ng will replace Michael Hill, who parted ways with the team last month after nearly 20 years.
She’ll be the highest ranking woman in baseball operations among the league’s 30 teams.
