  • A major snowstorm is expected to travel up the mid-Atlantic to New England this weekend.

Boston could get buried in snow this weekend.

A nor’easter is expected to charge up the East Coast Friday night until Sunday blanketing mid-Atlantic and New England states in a heavy powdering of snow.

As the storm works its way up the East Coast, it will be strengthened by a bomb cyclone and transform into a full-blown blizzard for eastern New England, according to AccuWeather.

“Everything is on the table with this storm,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said. Rayno added that eastern New England and the eastern tip of Long Island are likely to get over a foot of snow.

AccuWeather meteorologists anticipate over three feet of snowfall in eastern New England including near Boston, Worcester, Islip all the way up to Portland and Bangor, Maine.

In addition, the snow will be accompanied by winds 40 mph or faster which will limit visibility to a quarter of a mile or less for several hours in parts of New England.

AccuWeather meteorologists warn the storm could shut down Boston’s Logan International Airport among others and result in flight cancellations in New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
