A young girl was bitten by a shark at a North Carolina beach early in the day Sunday.
The 7-year-old was playing in the water at Ocean Isle Beach while on vacation with her parents when a shark bit her calf, according to the New York Post.
“I heard she was quite brave,” Mayor Debbie Smith said.
The girl was taken to the hospital to receive a few stitches and later released.

No other shark sightings or incidents were reported in the area over the weekend.
“You should always be cautious when you’re in the water at the beach and just use good common sense, and to be alert,” Smith said. “But this is not a common occurrence.”
