Fauci grilled and pressed to resign on talk show

Story at a glance:

  • Anthony Fauci refuses to quit despite criticism.
  • “So because there are a lot of people who have ideas about conspiracies and changing minds and flip-flopping, that’s not a reason to step down. Not at all,” he said.
  • Fauci had defended CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, who suggested booster shots.

Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Biden’s chief medical adviser, got confronted on a TV show about resigning.

Some vocal Americans are not pleased with Fauci’s active role in bringing awareness about the COVID-19 crisis, with some like Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) believing Fauci lied to Congress and should face a five-year prison sentence (Fauci denies this).

However, in a rare occurrence, Fauci pushed back at the notion of quitting in an interview with conservative host Hugh Hewitt’s radio program, Mediate reported.

Earlier in the interview, Fauci had defended Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky, who suggested booster shots. But then Hewitt read a list of controversies surrounding the pandemic.

“I’ve lost confidence in the CDC and the FDA [Food and Drug Administration], and I actually believe a lot of Americans, a significant part of America, now have lost confidence in you, Dr. Fauci,” Hewitt said.

“Is there a point where you will say ‘I do more harm than good because people don’t listen to me anymore’ and step aside?” Hewitt asked.

“No. Absolutely, unequivocally no,” Fauci answered.

Fauci added, “So because there are a lot of people who have ideas about conspiracies and changing minds and flip-flopping, that’s not a reason to step down. Not at all.”

Getting the public to get vaccinated has been Fauci’s consistent goal, with the challenge of convincing nearly 70 million unvaccinated Americans, according to Eat this, Not that.
