The Loss of Nature: A Global Threat

The Loss of Nature: A Global Threat

The loss of our biodiversity has the power to uproot economies, make lands uninhabitable, foster Zoonotic diseases, and cause competition for resources and regional unrest – all of which has been well-documented within the last few decades.

The Biden Administration has spoken of the loss of nature as a true and present threat to our security. In his first month in office, the president signed executive orders designed to protect public lands and committed to conserving 30 percent of U.S. lands and coastal seas by 2030.

The motivation appears to be there, but are we doing enough? Is the intelligence community taking this threat seriously? What steps should elected leaders take to safeguard the biodiversity of our planet?

On March 24, The Hill will convene policymakers and national security experts for an in-depth discussion on the intersection of our national security priorities and the global loss of nature.
