Smart farming will help cutdown on food waste, says computer scientist

Computer science expert Rich Wolski said in an interview that aired Wednesday on Hill.TV’s “Boundless” that smart farming and 5G technology will help cut down on food waste.

“What you’d like is for growers and the people who support them, trucking companies [and] freight companies, to have real-time, high-quality information about what the plants need, what the lands need, what the operations need,” Wolski, a professor at the University of Southern California, told Hill.TV.

“For food production, that’s going to be really important in respect to optimizing how food is produced. In particular, it would be a really good way to cut down on waste,” he said.

“We will be able to know when food goes wasted almost immediately because we can instrument the people who are consuming it,” he said.

“Boundless” is a Hill.TV documentary series focused on technological advancements.
