Krystal Ball: Mueller is the one standing up for our country, not Trump

Hill.TV host Krystal Ball on Monday said that special counsel Robert Mueller is standing up for the country more than President Trump is in terms of relations with Russia.

“We already had a photo-op this morning between Trump and Putin, and you’ll remember the pre-NATO photo op when our president was not shy about really beating our allies, Germany in particular. This photo op, very different vibe, very chummy,” Ball told co-host Buck Sexton on “Rising,” referring to President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday.

“A laundry list of potential issues to discuss came up. Election meddling, not one of them. Of course not surprising, this president does not take those allegations seriously,” she added.

“He hopes we can build an extraordinary relationship. I mean, what I would say is, I also wouldn’t expect anything to come out of this. I think the real action was on Friday with Bob Mueller,” Ball continued. “He’s the one who’s actually standing up for our country right now.”

Ball’s comments come after Mueller indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers in the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Prior to meeting with Putin on Monday, Trump blamed Mueller’s probe into Russian election meddling for poor relations between Moscow and Washington.

“Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!” Trump said in a tweet.

Ball is a former Democratic congressional candidate and founder of the Democratic PAC People’s House Project.
