Full interview: Chris Murphy speaks out on the Trump-Putin meeting and what it means

Senate Foreign Relations Committee member Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) sharply criticized President Trump for his controversial summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in a Thursday interview with Hill.TV.

“It will probably go down as the most disastrous trip abroad by a president during our lifetime,” he told “Rising” co-host Krystal Ball.

Trump has faced bipartisan criticism since his Monday press conference with Putin, in which he appeared to side against the U.S. intelligence community and back Russia’s denial of its 2016 election interference.

The Connecticut Democrat also called out the president for his conduct during last week’s NATO summit.

“What he did in Europe before that press conference was in many ways more damaging to the United States and more helpful to Putin,” Murphy said. “Russia’s number-one goal is to pull apart the EU, to pull apart NATO. And Trump just became essentially Putin’s right-hand man in that endeavor.”
