At least when it comes to politics.
Breitbart, that conservative news outlet that liberals love to hate, has released video from a Google internal meeting, showing that right after the 2016 election, pretty much everyone who calls that shots at that company was outraged, terrified, and deeply wounded – all at once – because Donald Trump won the presidential election
The Googlers’ sadness at trump’s victory melted so many snowflakes, at one point all the employees gathered in the auditorium were told to turn and hug the person next to them.
Now, before you tell me, hey, this is a private company, they can do what they want, say what they want, etc.
Yeah, I get it. That’s true.
But Google has absolutely denied that any of its political biases have ever influenced any of the decision making around its product-
Including the algorithms that run the most powerful search engine in the world.
Sorry, I’m not buying it. Google is right along with Twitter and Facebook when it comes to ideology – and with it, decision-making that skews left.
If you don’t believe me, just remember – in the leaked google video, they start brainstorming ways to stop this from happening again – meaning a Trump-like election win for the right.
Folks, enough is enough. Silicon Valley is as progressive as the women’s studies department at Oberlin. They are super poweful, ultra wealthy and have the power to shift perception at a national and even global level.
Government regulation is unlikely to be the answer. But before we can even wage battle for free speech in the digital era- we have to know who is on what side.
And good, my friends, is on the left, and of the left.
