Conservative columnist Kristen Tate on Wednesday said that the mainstream media played a major role in inadvertently motivating Republicans to vote in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
“I also think a big mobilizer for the GOP was the mainstream media, which has been demonizing [President] Trump and his supporters for the last year and a half,” Tate, a columnist for The Hill, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“I got a call from a friend in Texas who said he could not wait to cast his vote because he’s tired of being portrayed as a Nazi, racist for just supporting the president, and I think a lot of conservatives feel that way,” she continued.
“These are not people who protest. You know, they’re not burning down buildings. They just kind of hold their tongues, then they go to the polls, and they vote,” she said.
Tate’s comments come hours after Republicans increased their majority in the Senate, but lost control of the House to the Democrats.
Trump has frequently sparred with various media organizations, most notably CNN, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, for what he says is unfair coverage of him and his administration.
He frequently refers to the outlets as “fake news” and “lying.”
However, the president does enjoy a close relationship with Fox News, frequently granting interviews to the network, and tweeting out its stories.
