Democratic strategist Kristen Hawn said Friday that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s bid to become Speaker will meet with some resistance from moderate lawmakers.
“I’ve worked with a number of the moderate candidates you’re talking about coming in, and a lot of them have said they’re not going to support her,” Hawn told Hill.TV co-hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“I think there are a number more of moderate members of the House, and even some who don’t self-identify as moderates, who are talking about a new generation of leadership, and that’s actually a very real thing,” Hawn said. “Can she get there? Sure, but do I think there is a lot up in the air with where the Democratic caucus leadership is concerned? And when they all get back in town next week, we all know how that goes — they all get back together, the dynamic changes. There are a lot of phone calls being made right now.”
Pelosi’s critics, who have moved to rally opposition against her before, have yet to coalesce around a potential challenger. Those close to the California Democrat have downplayed the concerns, saying they are confident she will be elected Speaker.
House leadership elections are scheduled for Nov. 28.
