Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth said on Wednesday that the Broward County elections official facing calls from Republicans to resign amid Florida recounts should step down.
“Here’s something I’m also willing to concede, in the same way that I think Secretary of State [Brian] Kemp [R] should have recused himself quite a long time ago in Georgia, I do believe that this Florida official should recuse herself in the name of fairness,” Holdsworth, from DSPolitical, told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball on “Rising.”
“I will never understand the Republican argument, and it’s a total generalization there, that we don’t want to count all of the votes. If you are confident that you are going to win, which this president constantly says that he is, and a lot of the elected officials say that they are, then let the votes be counted,” she continued.
Her comments come as the Broward County supervisor of elections, Brenda Snipes, faces calls from Republicans to step down because her county lagged behind in others in the state in reporting vote returns.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Jeb Bush (R) both called for Snipes to step down.
President Trump and Scott have alleged that voter fraud took place in Scott’s U.S. Senate race against incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D).
Trump accused Snipes office of “finding” new votes amid the state’s ongoing recounts.
Snipes fired back at Trump in an interview with a West Palm Beach, Fla. TV station on Tuesday.
“Well, I don’t have a treasure trove for going out digging on the beach or somewhere to find any votes. But I’ve never had the opportunity to meet the president other than seeing him through television and he hasn’t met me,” she said.
A recount is also underway in the state’s gubernatorial race between Democrat Andrew Gillum and Republican Ron DeSantis.
