President Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on Thursday said that he does not believe Trump will pardon former campaign chairman Paul Manafort after special counsel Robert Mueller said Manafort violated a plea agreement.
“I don’t think so, but I do think he has the right to review an application,” Lewandowski said when asked if he though Manafort could get a presidential pardon by Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“Barack Obama pardoned more people than 13 presidents combined,” Lewandowski continued. “And some of these people were really bad people.”
“Every president has the opportunity, and I think if Paul Manafort is going to spend the rest of his life in jail, will he make an application for a pardon, I think it would be reviewed,” he said.
Mueller’s team alleges that Manafort “committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Counsel’s Office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement.”
Trump said on Wednesday that pardoning his former campaign chairman was not “off the table.”
The president has pardoned a number of individuals during his administration, including supporters Dinesh D’Souza and Joe Arpaio.
