Swalwell says favorite 2018 meme depicts Trump’s chief-of-staff search

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) told Hill.TV that his favorite political meme of 2018 depicted President Trump’s search for a new White House chief of staff.

“I have been the subject of political memes, but I have some favorites of my own,” Swalwell told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball earlier this month, in an interview that aired Monday on “Rising.”

“My favorite, probably, is the president having a young boy mow the White House lawn, and the meme says, ‘Will you be my chief of staff?'” he said. “You can almost put anything on that picture, but that one is especially relevant now.”

The meme surfaced earlier this month after Trump announced that John Kelly would be stepping down from his role as chief of staff at the end of the year.

The president named budget director Mick Mulvaney as his acting chief of staff after various potential candidates, including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), and Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner were floated for the role.
