Dem lawmaker: GOP calls for Schiff to resign are ‘just typical Republican BS’

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) told Hill.TV on Thursday that GOP calls for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to resign are “just typical Republican B.S.”

His comments came on the same day committee Republicans released a letter calling for Schiff to leave Congress.

“What do you make of the calls for congressman Schiff to step down from his position?” asked Krystal Ball on “Rising.”

“Just typical Republican B.S., to be honest,” Gallego responded. “I mean, this is the kind of stuff that they do all the time.”

He added that the idea of Republicans having credibility when it comes to conducting investigations is “just comical.”

President Trump on Thursday said Schiff should resign from Congress. He cited the California Democrat’s assertion that evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia “undoubtedly exists,” even though special counsel Robert Mueller’s findings said otherwise, according to a summary of the report written by Attorney General William Barr.

“Congressman Adam Schiff, who spent two years knowingly and unlawfully lying and leaking, should be forced to resign from Congress!” Trump tweeted.

Schiff defended his comments by listing contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow during an Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday.

“My colleagues may think it is OK the president’s son was offered dirt as part of an effort to help Trump,” he said, referring to Donald Trump Jr. “You might think it is OK. I don’t.”
