Young Turks host and executive producer Ana Kasparian on Monday told Hill.TV that the Trump administration has inadvertently created a revival in investigative journalism in Washington.
“The Trump administration has actually led to a revival of investigative journalism,” Kasparian told hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti on “Rising,” when asked about the press coverage of Trump during his administration.
“It’s certainly something that he doesn’t appreciate and enjoy, so he’s constantly attacking the press. It’s part of the reason why he refuses to go to the White House correspondents’ dinner,” the liberal host continued.
Washington’s journalists gathered on Saturday for the annual White House correspondents’ dinner along with lawmakers and celebrities.
Trump did not attend the event for the third year in a row and urged other administration officials to follow suit.
The president instead opted to hold a campaign rally in Wisconsin, where he slammed the event and the media’s coverage of his administration.
“Fake news — they’re fake. They are fake, and they are fakers,” Trump said as his supporters chanted, “CNN sucks.”
Last year, comedian Michelle Wolf made headlines after roasting White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was seated nearby.
Sanders was present at the campaign rally on Saturday.
“Last year, I was at a slightly different event and didn’t get the best welcome,” Sanders said. “This is an honor.”
