Saagar Enjeti to debate moderators: Don’t waste time on impeachment

Hill.TV host Saagar Enjeti advised moderators for Thursday night’s Democratic debate not to spend too much time on the issue of impeachment.

“First off to the moderators, for God’s sake, don’t waste too much time on impeachment,” Enjeti said. “In the last debate, the first 15 minutes were spent with candidates in a round-robin on a topic that they generally agree upon.”

“I know that the House just voted to impeach Donald Trump, but guess what, folks: Nobody cares, especially those people who are watching a Democratic debate and have their minds made up on the subject,” he added.

Debate moderators kicked off the November debate by addressing the impeachment hearings.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has been tied to the impeachment inquiry, said, “Trump doesn’t want me to be the [Democratic] nominee,” and vowed to work with Republicans if he becomes president.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.), meanwhile, called Trump the “most corrupt president in modern history,” but warned that the party would lose the election if they put too much focus on him.

The sixth Democratic debate is slated to take place in Los Angeles. It comes a day after the House voted to impeach Trump on abuse of power and abuse of Congress tied to his actions with Ukraine.

Seven candidates have qualified for the debate: Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), billionaire Tom Steyer and businessman Andrew Yang.
