Krystal Ball praises Yang for calling out party on impeachment

Hill.TV host Krystal Ball praised businessman Andrew Yang for pushing back against impeachment during Thursday night’s debate, calling his remarks courageous.

During the sixth Democratic debate in Los Angeles, Yang blasted his party for being “obsessed” with impeaching President Trump, saying, “the more we act like Donald Trump is the cause of all of our problems, the more Americans lose trust.”

“It takes real courage to say that — to not buy into the fan fiction,” Ball said on Friday, referring to Yang’s remarks.

Yang, along with six other candidates, faced off in the Thursday night’s debate in Los Angeles.

In light of the House’s vote this week to impeach Trump, the first question of the night was centered on impeachment.

Each candidate on the stage was asked why public opinion was so divided on impeachment even after the House had made the case that Trump pressured Ukraine to open politically-motivated investigations into Democrats.

In response to the question, Yang said by focusing on impeachment, Democrats were ignoring the broader economic forces that led to Trump’s election.

“The media networks didn’t do us any favors by missing a reason by which Donald Trump became our president in the first place,” he said. “If you turn on cable network news today, you would think he was our president because of some combination of Russia, racism, Facebook, Hillary Clinton and emails all mixed together.”

“But Americans around the country know different. We blasted away 4 million manufacturing jobs that were primarily based in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Missouri,” he added.

Even though the the RealClearPolitics national polling average shows him at just 3.3 percent, Yang is still ahead of other candidates like Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who did not qualify for Thursday’s debate.
