Filmmaker says US must cut carbon emissions by 50 percent in next decade

Oscar Nominated Filmmaker and Environmental Activist Josh Fox said Friday that the U.S. has to cut carbon emissions by 50 percent in the next decade to effectively combat the adverse consequences of climate change.

“It is a challenge, and will require a FDR-like mobilization, but this is the last moment we have to do that in the face of climate change,” Fox told Hill.TV. “The [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] is telling us that we have to reduce our emissions by 50 percent in the next 10 years.”

Fox dismissed notions that the world instead should reduce its population, calling such a thought “eco-fascism” and “extraordinarily scary.”

He added that the much of the advancements in renewable energy technology of the past ten years is actively being  ignored, saying that renewable energy “is the only way we can safely decarbonize the planet at a massive scale.”
