Sirota: Cuomo gets disproportionately positive media attention

David Sirota, a former aide to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, said the media coverage of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) response to the coronavirus pandemic is disproportionately positive.

“He’s getting a lot of media attention — I would argue a disproportionate share of positive media attention — simply because he’s the governor of New York,” Sirota said on Hill.TV’s “Rising” Friday. “It’s the media capital of the world.”

“The problem is the media coverage of Cuomo is not necessarily reflective of what Andrew Cuomo is actually doing,” Sirota added.“…You have a governor of New York in the middle of a pandemic cutting Medicaid, for instance.”

Sirota criticized Cuomo appointing corporate leaders to his reopening board and the New York Board of Elections’ decision to cancel the state’s June 23 Democratic presidential primary.

“There really are fundamental questions about basic Democracy in this pandemic,” Sirota said.

A judge ruled Tuesday that the must hold the election on the set date in June.
