Trump campaign predicts president’s number will rise as anxiety fades

President Trump’s reelection campaign predicted that the president’s poll numbers will rise as anxiety over the coronavirus and economy fade.

“I think mostly it’s going to be that America’s back again, America’s opening up again, that we can get back to work, we can get back to responsibly and safely living our normal lives,” campaign spokesperson Marc Lotter said when asked on Hill.TV’s “Rising” what message the campaign is sending by hosting a rally this weekend.

“And as we see that happening, as we get more jobs reports of millions of jobs being created, people coming off unemployment, I think a lot of the anxiety will subside. I think that will reflect in positive polling for the president.”

The president has seen poor poll numbers over his handling of the coronavirus and a dip in support for his handling of the economy, but Lotter expressed confidence that Trump will get credit should the economy turn around and coronavirus cases decline.

“Once those are hopefully approved…and they’re able to get out there, I think a lot of the worry people are feeling out there will be put aside and they’ll see what the president was doing got us through this difficult time,” he said of possible therapeutics and cures.

The economy is currently in a recession, though the White House did get welcome news earlier this month when the Labor Department announced that 2.5 million jobs were added in May, bringing the unemployment rate to 13.3 percent.
