Economist Stephanie Kelton argues for a new outlook on deficit spending

Economist Stephanie Kelton said in an interview with Hill.TV that deficit spending should be evaluated on whether it helps parts of society that are most in need.

“There is a financial windfall going somewhere. The question is: Is it going to the places we want to direct that windfall?” said Kelton, a professor at Stony Brook University and author of “The Deficit Myth.”

Rather than focusing on the amount of money being added to the deficit, she said, the focus should be on where the money is going. Changing that mindset, Kelton argued, will help create a better economy.
