Presumptive Green Party presidential nominee Howie Hawkins said Tuesday that voting third party is the best way for progressives to voice their concerns in November’s election.
“We need economic justice,” Hawkins said on Hill TV’s “Rising,” describing the party’s “economic bill of rights,” which includes housing and job guarantees.
“The Democrats have had a president with both houses of Congress and they’ve secured none of these rights.”
Hawkins said that though progressives in Congress have tried to move the party further left, it remains largely moderate on key issues.
“It’s a life-or-deaths issue,” Hankins said. “Life expectancy among the working class is declining.”
Hawkins also said the party wants to cut the military budget 75 percent and guarantee Medicare for All.
Many of the Green Party’s policies align with those of progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who dropped out of White House race earlier this year, paving the way for former Vice President Joe Biden to win the Democratic Party nomination.
“You vote for Biden, you basically disappeared yourself politically,” Hawkins said of progressives.
