Cenk Uygur, the host of the online political show “The Young Turks,” said that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is the best chance for a progressive to become former Vice President Joe Biden’s (D) running mate.
“To me it’s a no-brainer as far as what progressives should want,” he said on Hill.TV’s “Rising” Tuesday. “Among the realistic choices [Warren is] by far the most progressive.”
Uygur is a long-time supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.), who ended his presidential campaign earlier this year after losing several key states to Biden during Super Tuesday.
Biden, the presumed Democratic nominee, has committed to choosing a woman as his running mate.
Uygur said more progressive choices like Nina Turner, the former co-chairwoman for Sen. Bernie Sanders‘s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) are “our dream” but they are not likely to be chosen for the ticket.
”If you think they have even a one percent chance of happening you don’t know anything about politics,” he said.
Another likely choice is Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who Uyger said is too close to center.
“Am I in favor of that? Hell no,” Uygur said of a potential Harris vice presidency. “That only leaves you with Elizabeth Warren.”
