The Intercept’s bureau chief Ryan Grim commented Tuesday on reporting from his outlet that found that the Massachusetts Democratic Party was involved in a letter released by College Democrats of Massachusetts alleging inappropriate behavior between congressional candidate Alex Morse and students at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
Supporters of Morse, have called for an investigation into the claims made in The Intercept’s reporting.
Morse, a progressive Massachusetts mayor, is challenging House Ways and Means Chair Richard Neal (D-Mass.).
The outlet reportedly found the state party started discussing ways to damage Morse’s campaign as early as October, 2019.
“We now know with certainty that the state party was involved in the planning of this and before the allegations became public,” Grim told Hill.Tv’s “Rising.”
According to The Intercept, the state party asked the College Democrats to delete messages that showed contact between the College Democrats and the Massachusetts Democratic Party.
Grim noted that polling in the district has shown Morse is gaining steam, with a new poll showing him within five points of Neal.
