Chuck Rocha, former senior adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) 2020 presidential campaign, said on Hill TV’s “Rising” Friday that Republicans may have done a better job to sway undecided Latino voters during their convention than Democrats.
Rocha noted that most undecided voters are not tuning into the entire convention but seeing snippets and media coverage.
“During the [Democratic convention], Latinos saw [that] Democratic Latino activists are upset because there’s no Latino representation at the convention. At the [Republican convention], the headline literally says ‘we’re naturalizing people to make them U.S. citizens,’” Rocha said.
The political adviser said President Trump only needs between 4 percent and 8 percent support from Latinos in swing states like Arizona, North Carolina and Florida to win.
“This is a show,” Rocha added. “If this race was about policy, Donald Trump wouldn’t have gotten elected last time because he put policy on a red hat and got elected.”
