Tennessee Senate candidate Marquita Bradshaw (D) told Hill.TV that she would bring a working-class perspective to Congress if elected in November.
“I grew up in a neighborhood where we were working class, we didn’t have a whole lot, but we did have the love and support of people,” she said.
She attributed her primary victory to her ability to build a community of multiracial, working-class people who are frustrated with the state of racial divisions and the Trump administration.
“We are all working people and we want everyone to have access to this America.”
Bradshaw went on to say that with the pandemic at the forefront of voters’ minds, “patient-centered health care that is for everyone” will be the only way to get through the public health crisis.
As a Democrat in Tennessee, Bradshaw faces an uphill battle in November. Her opponent, Bill Hagerty (R) is favored to win the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander (R). The nonpartisan Cook Political Report lists the seat as solid Republican.
