Jacobin editor-at-large David Sirota said on Hill TV’s “Rising” Friday that Senate leaders should be quarantining before proceeding with Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
President Trump and first lady Melania Trump announced Friday that they have tested positive for COVID-19. Trump announced Barrett’s nomination at a White House event on Saturday; she has since tested negative.
“One basic medical question is can the Senate get together in any kind of safe way,” Sirota said, noting that unlike the House, the Senate does not have rules in place for remote legislating.
“I think that’s a legit question for every senator to ask,” he added. “I mean, we’re going to have senators dressed up in basically space suits… Certainly there is the argument that Judge Barrett should be quarantining. Frankly it shouldn’t be a political question, it should be a medical question.”
