National political reporter: Biden’s career suggests he will be ‘bipartisan dealmaker’ as president

Alex Thompson, a national political reporter at Politico, said Thursday that President-elect Joe Biden’s career suggests he will act as a “bipartisan dealmaker” when his term begins in January.

“A lot of his team are sending signals that they are going to be bipartisan in their approach and cutting deals, which drove progressives crazy during the Obama era and might drive them crazy again in the Biden era,” Thompson said.

He cited Biden’s Saturday speech, in which the former vice president said he is a “proud Democrat” but plans to be an “American president.”

Thompson noted, however, that “the truth is we probably don’t know yet” how Biden will operate.

“We’re gonna find out really in the first 100 days what happens,” he said.
