Intercept D.C. bureau chief Ryan Grim predicted on Tuesday that President-elect Joe Biden will privately display his “temper” to those who challenge him during his presidency.
Grim, who reported on leaked audio last week of a meeting Biden had with civil rights leaders, told Hill.TV’s “Rising” that the president-elect’s remarks in that meeting affirmed former staff narratives that in private, he strays from his public “affable uncle Joe” demeanor and has more of a temper.
“What this meeting with civil rights leaders shows is that he’s still that same guy, but now he’s gonna be the president of the United States,” he said. “And so he’s going to show that temper to people who are challenging him as he did with the civil rights leaders.”
The D.C. bureau chief also said Biden is known for “going on and on” in both public and private meetings and noted he is recruiting Cabinet members who Grim said would be less likely to challenge him.
“So he’s kind of surrounding himself [with people] who are going to indulge in the kind of soliloquies that he is kind of famous for in meetings,” he said. “And in the rare times that he’s gonna get challenged, he’s gonna show that temper.”
Leaked audio reported last week revealed that Biden privately warned civil rights leaders to reduce the talk about police reform ahead of the Georgia Senate runoff races, attributing some of the Democrats’ November losses to the “defund the police” slogan.
