Former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Monday to discuss her House bid in Ohio’s 11th Congressional District.
In an interview with Krystal Ball, Turner discussed her bid for the seat represented by Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), President-elect Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and vowed to be “unapologetically for the people.”
“The pandemic has definitely revealed the fissures in a system that was not working before the pandemic, and it is especially not working now,” said Turner, who was national co-chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) 2020 presidential campaign.
If elected, Turned continued, she would be a vocal advocate for a “Medicare for all” style health care system, the kind championed by Sanders.
“As you know, and your viewers know, I have been a staunch supporter in fighting for universal health care…the commodification of health care does not work. It is absolutely immoral to have so many people suffering,” she said.
