Ryan Grim, Washington, D.C. bureau chief of The Intercept, said that Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) is “very likely” to challenge Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D), who on Monday announced his U.S. Senate campaign.
During an appearance on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Grim discussed other Democrats that could run in the 2022 race.
“Conor Lamb is very likely to get into the Senate race,” Grim said. “There’s going to be redistricting in Pennsylvania and it’s very likely that they target his seat.”
“No matter how good a politician he is, if they can throw in another 30,000 Republicans into that district, he’s in a lot of trouble,” Grim added, referring to Lamb, “and he believes he’s kind of the ‘blue dog’ hope of Pennsylvania, so he would kind of run as that standard-bearer in that race.”
Grim also said that Pennsylvania State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D) from Philadelphia could also enter the race. Grim noted that Kenyatta has become more progressive over the past few years.
“If he can rally some progressive Philadelphia support, maybe that takes a bite out of Fetterman and create some space for Connor Lamb,” Grim said. “But I do think it’s Fetterman’s race to lose at this point.”
