New York Assemblyman Ron Kim (D) lambasted Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) as lacking the “self-dignity to resign” following a report this week from the state attorney general that concluded he had sexually harassed multiple women and broken state and federal laws.
“It’s abundantly clear that this governor doesn’t have the self-dignity to resign and move this state forward the right direction. So it is up to us. It is incumbent on us, we have a moral and a legal duty now to removing his from his position of power while we hold him accountable for a number of other things that he failed the state on in the last few months,” Kim said while appearing on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”
Host Kim Iversen asked the New York assemblyman whether there are any members left in the state legislature who are still loyal to Cuomo.
“I would imagine there are still people who are loyal, that would speak up one by one,” Kim said. “But so far not one lawmaker in Albany has spoken to support Andrew Cuomo.”
According to Kim, state lawmakers who stayed silent when the allegations first broke earlier this year are now internally coming out strongly against allowing Cuomo to stay in office.
A slew of Democratic lawmakers, including New York’s congressional delegation and President Biden, have all called on Cuomo to resign. The New York governor has remained defiant, refusing to resign and characterizing the report as inaccurate and politically charged.
