U.S. veteran and Democratic Senate candidate from Missouri Lucas Kunce said the U.S. drone strike that killed 10 Afghan civilians in August is a reminder that the U.S.’s continued involvement in Afghanistan “is not worth it.”
“This is just a reminder that this is what war looks like,” Kunce said while appearing on Hill.TV’s “Rising. “It should just be a good reminder for everyone — just like when the 13 U.S. service members were killed a few weeks ago — that what we’ve been doing there is not worth it and that we need to get out.”
Kunce also touched on his goals of introducing legislation that would ban defense contractors from having an influence on foreign policy if elected.
“I’m tired of seeing people convert — or you know, these guys they convert people into profit. That’s what they’re doing. Like that drone strike that was a tragedy, people made money off of that. People made a lot of money off the Afghanistan war,” said Kunce.
Kunce is currently running to replace Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) who is not seeking another term in office. There are currently five other candidates running to be the Democratic nominee for the seat.
