Briahna Joy Gray discusses Pelosi’s 2022 re-election announcement

Former national press secretary for Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) 2020 presidential campaign Briahna Joy Gray told the Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Wednesday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is “first and foremost, a woman who is all about power.”

While discussing Pelosi’s announcement that she will seek re-election in 2022, Gray said that anyone who believed Pelosi might not run for reelection has “forgotten who Nancy Pelosi is.”

Gray also emphasized that Pelosi has avoided debating anyone during her years in office, which may have led to significant differences in values compared to the modern progressive.

“Very few people, I think, in her district are actually really familiar with the enormous contrast that’s developed between her and the average progressive, even people who are to my right that I would critique,” she said.

“The average progressive or even Democrat in America, I think, is leaps and bounds beyond her at this point,” she added.

She said an example of these differences could be seen when Pelosi defended the practice of members of Congress trading stocks while in office, which received heavy pushback this week.

Gray says she is hoping to see a debate, “at the very least,” adding that Pelosi owes it to her constituents.

“Frankly, because she’s served such a national role as Speaker of the House, she owes it to all of us to defend not only some of the choices that’s sh’es made while speaker … [but also] actually get some progressive items on the table,” she said.
