Former President Trump damaged U.S. cyber protections against Russia, author Thom Hartmann told Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Tuesday.
Hartmann details in his new book, “The Hidden History of Big Brother in America: How the Death of Privacy and the Rise of Surveillance Threaten Us and Our Democracy,” how Trump reversed Obama-era protections once he took office.
After the first Russian cyberattack on Ukraine, former President Obama created an agency to build out American cyber security, specifically against Russian threats. When Trump took office, he dismantled the agency, and within a year Russia had infiltrated American cyber security, Hartmann claims.
“Trump had basically shut down our cyber protections against Russia,” he said.
