Morning Consult senior polling reporter Cameron Easley says Republicans should be concerned that President Trump’s popularity has fallen in key swing states ahead of November’s midterms.
“While the map is good for Republicans in a midterm election, especially in the first term of a president, the environment is typically going to be bad for the party in power,” Easley told Hill TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
“So I don’t think it’s a huge shock that the president isn’t faring quite as well in some of these states as you might have expected a couple years ago. It should be concerning for Republicans, somewhat, nonetheless,” he said.
Easley’s comments come after a recent Morning Consult poll seen on Hill TV showed the president’s approval ratings dropping in key states ahead of the midterms.
The survey found Trump’s approval rating down in some states Trump won in 2016, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
