GOP pollster: ‘Fool’s gold’ for Dems to think Walker is doomed in Wisconsin

Republican pollster Ashlee Rich Stephenson on Tuesday said it was “fool’s gold” to write off Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) in his reelection bid, despite multiple polls showing him trailing his Democratic opponent.

“I would certainly never count Gov. Scott Walker out by any stretch of the imagination. What he went through in 2010 was a real — survive with the recall. I think it just fool’s gold to say otherwise,” Stephenson told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”

Walker won first a statewide recall vote and then his run for a second term, but two polls in the last week show him down against top Democratic challenger Tony Evers.

“If we remember in [2016], everybody was saying Sen. Ron Johnson was done at this point in the summer, and then we know that’s certainly not what happened,” she said, referring to Wisconsin’s Republican senator.

Stephenson also expressed hope for Republicans in Minnesota.

“I would move over to Minnesota, which I think is so exciting, not only for 2018 but for 2020,” Stephenson said, citing President Trump’s narrow defeat in the state.

“We’ve got a whole battery of really tremendous congressional races there that I think we’re going to see Republicans win,” she added.
