Dem pollster: Voters like ObamaCare more as they learn about it

Democratic pollster Nancy Zdunkewicz says voters generally grow to like the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, as they learn more about the law.

“The more that people learn about the Affordable Care Act, the more they like it,” Zdunkewicz, who is the managing editor at Democracy Corps, told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on Monday on “What America’s Thinking.”

“We already knew that was true. There were various elements of it that people liked more than they would like the package of ObamaCare,” she continued.

Zdunkewicz said Republicans were able to change some voters’ perception of former President Obama’s signature health-care law by highlighting its unpopular aspects.

“It was [Democrats’] signature policy achievement, so it was a way for them to have a referendum on Barack Obama, to also be able to pull over some independents who didn’t like certain aspects of it, and I think in some ways it was demoralizing for some Democrats,” she said.

Fox News poll released last week found that the 2010 law was more popular with voters than the Republican-backed tax plan, which was passed last year.

“This is the signature tax law of the Republican Congress and Donald Trump. It’s actually their only policy achievement,” Zdunkewicz said. “People just become less excited about it the more they learn about it. It’s sort of the reverse scenario.”
