Democrats are leading Republicans on the generic congressional ballot by 10 points among women, according to a new American Barometer survey.
The poll, which was conducted by Hill.TV and the HarrisX polling company, found that 44 percent of women said they would support a Democratic candidate in November’s midterm elections, while 34 percent said they would support a Republican candidate.
The last American Barometer survey on the generic ballot, released on Sept. 26, found that 40 percent of women said they would support Democrats in the midterms, while 32 percent said they would support Republican candidates.
“Although the Democrats have the greater enthusiasm, they’re doing it with women, not necessarily 18- to 30-year-olds,” Marist poll director Lee Miringoff told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
The survey comes as speculation has swirled around how women will vote in November after Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh faced three sexual misconduct allegations, dating back to his time in college and high school, during his confirmation process.
The now-Supreme Court justice has strongly denied the accusations.
The coverage of the allegations, and the subsequent testimony from Kavanaugh and the first woman to publicly accuse him of sexual misconduct, Christine Blasey Ford, roiled the nomination process.
A CNN poll released on Tuesday found that 53 percent of women have a negative view of Kavanaugh, up from 33 percent in August.
The American Barometer was conducted on Oct. 6 and 7 among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
