Strategist says Dem-controlled states now on ‘front lines’ against Trump

Democratic strategist Juanita Tolliver said on Wednesday that states under Democratic control are now on the front lines against President Trump’s policies.

“I think the states are where the power is going to be coming,” Tolliver told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”

“As we’ve seen up against a lot of the ridiculous, atrocious policies Trump has put forward, you have — state actors are the front lines against Trump,” she continued.

“You have governors and attorneys general who are taking his administration to court, who are really being the front line for the left to really challenge this administration, so that definitely has a lot to play here,” she said.

The 2018 midterm elections saw significant Democratic gains in state legislatures across the country, with Democrats flipping seven governorships and six state legislatures and winning over 300 state House and Senate seats.

The state Democratic gains could provide roadblocks to policies put forward by the Trump administration.

States have already challenged Trump on issues such as federal deductions on state and local taxes, as well as on fuel efficiency standards.
