Forty-six percent of Americans polled say faster download and upload speeds are the most appealing part of 5G cellular technology, according to a new American Barometer survey.
The poll also showed that 33 percent of respondents said they found wider coverage the most appealing part of the technology, while 29 percent said they wanted high quality video streaming.
Twenty-five percent of respondents said high quality voice and video calls were the technology’s most appealing features.
The private sector and the federal government are looking to invest in 5G wireless networks, with the hope of spurring technological breakthroughs in various industries.
Democratic strategist Juanita Tolliver told Hill.TV that the technology will likely have a positive effect on people’s everyday lives.
“We live on our devices. We stream, we review news articles, we’re on social media, we’re uploading content regularly,” Tolliver told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“This is something that I think folks are really going to enjoy having access to that’s going to improve their overall experience, not just on their phones, but on other technological devices,” she continued.
“Increasing accessibility to rural communities, and different industries, whether that’s medical, agricultural or otherwise that can benefit from this technology, so I only see good things here,” she said.
The American Barometer is a daily survey conducted by the HarrisX polling company on behalf of The Hill’s new video division, Hill.TV. This survey was conducted on Nov. 24-25 among 1,000 registered voters. The sampling margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
