Forty-five percent of Americans say the 2018 midterm elections were a “clear win” for the Democratic Party, according to a new American Barometer poll.
The survey found that 40 percent of respondents said they viewed the election as a draw for both parties, while 16 percent said the contests were a clear win for Republicans.
Democrats were able to take back control of the House for the first time since 2010, while Republicans increased their hold on the Senate in the November elections.
The Democrats will control at least 233 seats in the lower chamber when they take office in January and the GOP will control at least 199 seats.
Three House seats, two in New York and one in California, have yet to be called.
Republicans hold 53 seats in the Senate, and Democrats have 47 seats.
Democratic pollster Nancy Zdunkewicz said the American people processed Democratic gains in the days after election night.
“Some of the results trickled in, so I think if you were just watching on election night, you didn’t see how large this victory really was, how historic it has become,” Zdunkewicz told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
The American Barometer is a daily survey conducted by the HarrisX polling company on behalf of Hill.TV.
The poll was conducted on November 24 and 25 among 1,000 registered voters. The sampling margin or error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
