Republican pollster Ed Goeas said in an interview that aired Monday on “What America’s Thinking” that Americans’ optimism in the economy is connected to recent small-business growth.
“This was the first time in a tax cut that not only did they give a tax cut to big business, they gave a tax cut to small business,” Goeas told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on Friday, referring to the Republican tax cut plan passed at the end of 2017.
“That has a bigger impact with the electorate. More people work for small businesses today, own small businesses as opposed to being involved with big business,” he continued.
“I think that’s going to have a huge impact on attitudes toward the economy because not only are you seeing the wages going up, you’re seeing benefits going up,” he said. “You’re seeing a lot of things happening inside small business that hits a larger part of the country.”
Goeas was responding to a recent Ipsos poll, which showed that 75 percent of Americans polled said 2018 was a good year for them, while 25 percent said it was a bad year for them.
