Pollster Nancy Zdunkewicz said on Monday that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is one of the few national figures to see their favorability ratings improve since the 2018 midterm elections last year.
“One thing that has been interesting is to watch how Nancy Pelosi’s favorability numbers have changed,” Zdunkewicz, managing editor at Democracy Corps, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“Her favorability numbers were the only ones that improved since the election,” she said.
“Now she’s even more so in front of cameras, and part of the discussion about what’s going on the country,” she said,
Pelosi took center stage in the shutdown fight between Democrats and President Trump, working with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to keep the party unified in opposition to the president’s demand for $5.7 billion in funding for his proposed border wall.
On Friday, Trump agreed to reopen the government for three weeks without the money for his border wall. Polls during the shutdown showed more people blamed Trump and Republicans.
An average of three polls compiled by CNN on Sunday found that during the shutdown, Pelosi’s net favorability rose 3 points, while Trump’s decreased.
