The public release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report had little effect on President Trump’s approval rating, according to a new poll.
In a Hill-HarrisX survey released Wednesday, 45 percent of registered voters said they approved of the way that Trump is performing his official duties. A 55 percent majority disagreed.
A poll conducted in the days leading up to Thursday’s release of the Mueller report had Trump’s approval rating at 46 percent.
Both surveys had a 3.1 percent sampling margin of error, and Trump has consistently hovered around a 45 percent approval rating since mid-February.
Since the publication of the special counsel’s findings, both parties have been seeking to spin the Mueller report to their advantage.
The president has repeatedly denounced Democrats based on the special counsel’s finding that while Russia sought to help Trump win the election, the Trump campaign did not directly assist in that process. Congressional Democrats have vowed to continue their own investigations of Trump and have also sought to obtain an unredacted version of the report.
The president and his critics have also tried to claim vindication from Mueller’s refusal to conclude whether Trump obstructed justice.
In a Hill-HarrisX survey released Tuesday, 76 percent of respondents said their opinions about the Russia inquiry were not changed by the release of the Mueller report.
The most recent Hill-HarrisX survey was conducted April 22-23 among 1,001 registered voters, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
