Republican pollster B.J. Martino told Hill.TV on Wednesday that Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) calls for the House to start impeachment proceedings against President Trump could be a way for her to gain more attention in the crowded field of Democratic presidential hopefuls.
“She is trying to generate as much attention as possible right now,” Martino, a partner at the Tarrance Group, told host Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“She is going to pay for your college. She is going to impeach Trump,” he added. “If there is an idea that she thinks can make a big splash, she is going to come out with it now because her campaign’s in dire straits by all measures.”
Warren became the first Democratic candidate to say the House should begin impeachment proceedings. She later unveiled her plan to cancel nearly all student loan debt and create universal free public college.
The announcements came as Warren trails other 2020 Democrats in the polls.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden, who is expected to launch his campaign on Thursday, have led the pack in most polls.
